TR 781 over South Creek-6

County Bridge Number 27 is a riveted Warren pony truss bridge.  Built in 1898 by the Groton Bridge Company, it is 46’ long and one span.  The bridge has an unusual substructure design with rail for the columns, a cap beam, and plate sheeting for the backwall.  The truss members are built up of angles and plate, and some of the field connections are bolts.  Rolled floorbeams and stringers support the timber deck, and laced railings inside each truss line.  The diagonals, lower chord members, and floorbeams are connected at large gusset plates at the lower panel points.  This bridge has been determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
