SR 1056 over Susquehanna River

The Athens Bridge has been replaced by a steel girder bridge with concrete deck and parapets, resting on concrete abutments and piers. The original bridge was a pin connected Pennsylvania Petit through truss bridge. Built in 1916 by the Penn Bridge Company, it was a multiple span bridge, 568’ long and 19.9’ wide. The original bridge was listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
