Royal Manchester Golf Links Groundwater Supply Development

Skelly and Loy was retained to develop two high-yield wells to meet the irrigation needs of a 400-acre golf course that previously relied on a local public service provider for its water supply. Because the Susquehanna River Basin Commission (SRBC) regulates large groundwater withdrawals used for irrigation as a consumptive use, special SRBC-mandated permits were required. The finished supply wells have sustained yields ranging from 200 to 400 gallons per minute and meet the golf course's irrigation demand. Considerations for well placement included a fracture trace analysis, yield projections, irrigation line proximity, utility locations, golf course design features, and available access. In addition to cost reduction, the functioning wells allowed added flexibility for clubhouse, maintenance, practice range, and other support facilities improvements and expansion.
