Erosion and Sediment Control Design
Erosion and sedimentation control design is a necessary component of any project involving earthmoving and soil grading activities. Within the Environmental Engineering Services Group, applications of this science are applied to a variety of projects including stream restoration, stormwater management, water supply systems installation, and various types of wastewater treatment systems construction. Within these areas of discipline, unique perspectives are encountered which require new and innovative applications of established erosion and sediment control techniques as well as the development of new Best Management Practices to fit unique construction conditions. As an example, Skelly and Loy has been instrumental in developing practical control methods applicable to in-stream hydraulic structure construction activities associated with stream restoration projects. These methods often involve coordinating in-stream activities with low flow conditions to improve the performance of the structures while minimizing or eliminating the need for costly pump-around systems.
